Bedbugs are Not Welcome

Bedbugs are Not Welcome

Author Ellen Dudley, Posted on December 18, 2024

Well, at least a day late and more than a dollar short, I have returned. I got the bed – sitting room all done.

Memorial Service

Then I had people here over Memorial Day weekend for my husband, Tony’s memorial/celebration of life, whatever you want to call it … and it was lovely. There were people there from all parts of Tony’s life and many of them spoke and I was a tearful mess. As it should be. Suffice it to say : we got the room done and the floor is gorgeous, the lights work and it is very comfy. Ask me how I know?

First Housemates

I had my first housemates: BEDBUGS! The exterminator finally got here in the summer and after I had been bedbug food for days I had to move from my bed into the guest bed in the new room. I slept there for weeks because he had to come and spray and then return a month later to inspect and spray again and I still have to get rid of a couch in the sitting room downstairs and here it is nearly Christmas and I was supposed to have an inspection on December 2, ( My mother’s birthday, no less and if she were still with us she’d be 109 years old) but Rick didn’t show up. Rick is Mr Bedbug and is really good at what he does but he needs to come and do the inspection.

Spring Housemate

I’d like to get a housemate but I’m going to try to sell the house in June or July and I’d love to get someone here for the in between time. Now I have to clean out the bathroom of my stuff at the bottom of the new stairs. This will be the housemate’s own bathroom. Then I need to find said housemate.

Drowning

Thank God  we have as much done as needed doing but I need to sell Tony’s tools (he was a builder and a volunteer fireman!) and have a moving sale, etc, etc and I feel like I am drowning in crap! Not a good way to feel. And now the dog has broken his run and I need to get a new one but the hardware store closed at 1pm today so I need to go in the morning and get a new one and then get my contractor (who is putting in new stair treads and risers)  to hang up the new one on the outside  wire.

Dinosaurs

“Oh god!”, said the lady in the New Yorker cartoon to her friend as they stood on a Manhattan street corner and watched one dinosaur chasing another down the street “it’s just one damned thing after another!.” I know how she felt!!  Right now as I feel as if I am being chased by dinosaurs. I am about  to Zoom with my sister and try to get Christmas gifts mailed to Oregon with only nine days left till the holiday and time running out. At this moment I need to cook dinner, make SPP(sausage , peppers and potatoes) to take to my bereavement group on Tuesday.

Safety in a Bereavement Group

My bereavement group is just the best people I have met this year. They have saved my bacon and I love them. Truly, deeply love them. And perhaps more on them later. But this is it for now. More later on Mr Bedbug and such doings. But for now “Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!”

Dearest Ellen. From here in Australia your posts make me smile and want to cry at the same time. I am four years into this bereavement journey but have shared my home with two lovely women for the last 12 months. I can stand on my verandah overlooking the forest one day and see nothing but beauty. Another day I will see nothing but tasks and cost and be overwhelmed (by the dinosaurs ?) Good company really does help enormously.. I do hope you find a housemate to fit … Kindest regards.. Barbara
