Vermonter Ellen Dudley is sharing her ups and downs with us, as she prepares a spare bedroom to rent out. Links to all her posts are below!
The bed/sitting room that I plan to rent out is done with renovations but for the electrics. I have called the electrician again to finish the work in there, and in my bathroom. I cannot use my shower in the bathroom because the light is hanging down into the shower and I’m afraid that if I use it I might get electrocuted. And that prospect doesn’t thrill me. I cannot even change a light bulb because my right knee is beyond hope of redemption. It…and I… are… beyond hope! Way beyond hope. There was less hope when I started, for I was less than I am now but I am not less than, oh, never mind.
Van Morrison
I have been to hospice to get into next month’s “grief group.” I decided to do this after I spent yet another Sunday afternoon listening to Van Morrison and bawling my head off. Especially once I had endured yet another version of “In the Country Fair,” with Jim Rothermel’s lilting recorder playing in the background. I had once again decided that I was “with” Ben Fong Torres and if I was stranded on a desert island with only one album, it would be “Astral Weeks.” Coming in a close second would be “Saint Dominic’s Preview.”
During these thoughts, up popped the aforementioned Rothermel on recorder, to elicit another great gust of crying from yours truly. And only then did I wonder where on this desert island I would get the electricity, never mind the turn-table, speakers, and the blessed vinyl itself. Oh well, I was fantasizing, wasn’t I? So why not fantasize the whole lot?
Dreaming of Electricity
So, today I am back to the electrician. I am going to try calling him again, and then I’ll threaten him with calling somebody else. Some threat! If I’m lucky, he’ll be glad of that and I can look for another electrician. He made an appointment with me and then stood me up back in March. So to hell with loyalty! I’ll just go for electricity. And then I can think about renting out the bed/sit in June. I’ve tried to get a hold of my real estate lady and want to know what I can ask for rent. It will come with a full bath, an office and half the garage. But then I have to get the garage door fixed so it will go up and down. And that, as they say, will be that!
