On Next Avenue, an article, “Shared Housing Advice for Gays and Lesbians”, on shared housing as a good option for the LGBT community. We strongly recommended sharing housing for seniors, but there are specific issues facing the LGBT community.
I’m glad to see other people writing about this option. Joan M. Burda writes that there is prejudice against LGBT in some assisted living centers and nursing homes. She also refers to the sixty-five matching programs (Hardly enough!) throughout the United States which can be found through the National Shared Housing Resource Center. She lists some resources for for dealing with the legal side of a home sharing agreement.
But the critical question is, “How do you find a compatible housemate?” Evidently she didn’t find Sharing Housing, A Guidebook for Finding and Keeping Good Housemates.
Living with someone who fits your lifestyle and preferences essential to a successful homesharing arrangement. In today’s world let’s hope that that means that lesbian, gay, bi and trans folks can live with straight or not. It all depends on the individual.
