Sharing Housing 101
Learn a Framework to Find Your Good Housemate
How do you figure out if the person you are talking to is a good fit for you?
Have you ever gone online and looked at “roommate wanted” ads and felt that nothing was right for you? Hint: that’s not the way to start.
Or maybe you hope that someone else will do it for you? Sure there are online services. But you still need to know if the other person is a good fit for you. No one knows you better than you.
How to Manage the Risk — A Framework—What you really need
You need a framework that gives you steps in the right order and shows you where and how to discern if the person you are interviewing is a good fit.
You can learn a framework (in 45 minutes!) that will show you a process and where you can say “no.”
You’ve learned so many things! You (most likely) learned how to drive a car. Imagine getting into a car without any prior instruction. Certainly that would end up unhappily. Do you know how to bake a cake? Few people can do it without a recipe, most bakers will look for instructions on ingredients and methods. So just like driving or baking a cake (or any other skill you have) you can learn how to conduct a housemate search process. People teach how to do job interviews, how to buy a house, how to plan for retirement. Why not learn how to select a housemate?
Your process is priceless! They love it ♥️Homeshare Tucson
Sharing Housing 101 teaches a proven process that will help you say “yes” to a good housemate and “no” to someone who doesn’t fit. You can develop confidence in your own ability to discern the difference.
This course is a must. No one else has all this information in one place. I love that you call the class “101” as it is a first step in changing one’s life trajectory. The class gave me a road map. I already had a clear vision of the benefit of shared housing, I just didn’t know where to start. [The class] helped me be more focused on actual steps to move forward from vision to application. I also loved the stories and found them inspiring.Nancy Carnahan
What’s in Sharing Housing 101
Sharing Housing 101 has ten short videos, (3-6 minutes apiece) in which you will learn how to clarify your requirements, put together an announcement about what you are looking for, and follow a sequence of steps to learn if there is a fit between you and the potential housemate. The class includes downloadable worksheets and transcripts.
You will learn:
- The secret to starting out on the right foot and how this crucial step is often overlooked. The five steps where you can say “no” and how to recognize them.
- The seven elements of a compatible home share and how to use them in interviewing a potential housemate.
- The four principles for living well with others and why they replace lists of rules.
- The secret to attracting a housemate who is a good fit for you.
It’s possible that you aren’t ready right now to jump into shared housing. Taking the class is one way to explore the idea and understand what actions would actually be required when you are ready. Having a framework may help you figure out when you want to take action.

Who We Are
The class was created as an alternative to Discovering Shared Housing which our founder, Annamarie Pluhar has been teaching over the past 12 years. Too many times people wanted to take the class but were unable to fit it into their schedules! So we created this online version.
Annamarie became an expert on shared housing as the result of choosing to live in shared housing for most of her adult life. She wrote Sharing Housing, A Guidebook for Finding and Keeping Good Housemates. Her expertise grows from observation, learning what works and what doesn’t, and a fairly good understanding of the psychology of human nature. As an instructional designer experienced with online and in person learning it was a natural development to bring this class online.
What it is worth to you. Seriously. We are asking you to “pay from the heart.”
What’s the right price for this class? We don’t know. The class is unique. There’s nothing like it available anywhere on the web or in person. That would make it very valuable. On the other hand many people start considering shared housing because they are feeling so pinched by their economic reality.
We are asking you to pay what you feel is a fair price for you. Please check in with your heart, consider how you use your income. This is a genuine offer. So much of what we do at Sharing Housing is driven by a sense of mission and ministry.
We want you to be able to take the class.
That said we are not offering Sharing Housing 101 for free. We also need to pay our bills. We think that somewhere between $50 and $75 is appropriate. But we don’t want you to not take the class if you can’t do that. We are putting a bottom limit at $25. And if you can’t afford that please be in touch.
So please, pay what it is worth to you and what signifies a commitment from you to show up and do the work to make it the best learning experience you can.
When you have completed the class you will receive a certificate and a digital copy of a “Cheat Sheet” to remind you of the process you’ve learned.
Your learning is really important to us. Sharing Housing 101 is designed for you to understand the dimensions of sharing housing and equip yourself to venture into new territory. If after you have taken the first two lessons, in the first 14 days after your purchase, you decide it’s not what you were expecting, we’ll be happy to refund your investment.
